PDF OCR — searchable PDF
Select scanned PDF pages, recognize ten languages, and save a searchable PDF or editable TXT. Files stay in this browser; nothing is uploaded or autosaved.
No account needed
How to use
- 1Choose a PDF or load the two-page scanned example.
- 2Choose page order, language, resolution and rotation, then run. You can cancel during processing.
- 3Save the searchable PDF and check recognized text against the source. Edit, copy or save text as TXT.
Good to know
Only selected pages are rebuilt as images with new search text. Display size and orientation are retained; links, forms, annotations and original vectors are not. Keep your original. Large pages use reduced resolution to fit 8 MP. Retry at lower DPI or split the selection. Automatic deskew, orientation detection and PDF/A are unavailable.

When to use this tool
Use this to add search to a scan whose text cannot be selected. Choose document language and pages to get a PDF with an invisible OCR text layer over the original pages, plus TXT.
File workflow example
This illustrates the expected operation. Actual file size, quality and recognition depend on your source and settings; inspect the result in the tool.

How to read and check the result
After recognizing the two-page example, test word search and selection in the PDF. Text edits affect copy/TXT; the PDF keeps the initial recognition. Check names, numbers and table reading order against the source.
